This project is no longer maintained. I highly recommend WICD now, it works well for me in Ubuntu Linux.

WLAN Control provides a simple command-line tool which attempts to launch a WLAN connection.
It should support any WLAN card which has Linux drivers and support from ifconfig/iwconfig (has been tested on a Belkin RT2500-based 802.11B/G card, and an old Lucent Technologies Gold Orinoco 802.11B card).
Files are also available directly through the Subversion repository. To download the latest snapshot, go to the command line and enter (all one line):
svn co https://svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/wlan-control/trunk wlan-control
